Gold is one of the first metals used by humans, dating back to 2600 BC. Since ancient times people have decorated themselves with gold: in the Jewish Holy Temple the High Priest's breastplate was made of gold brocade; in ancient Greece gold medals were awarded to the most talented athletes and from time immemorial gold jewelry has been considered the peak of luxury and prestige. Gold has always been a symbol of power, prestige, courage and strength.
Gold is a noble metal. A noble metal is one that does not undergo processes of oxidation and corrosion, is very resilient and does not rust, making it the optimal metal for jewelry making. Noble metals are rarer because they can only be found in the earth's crust, and therefore they are also more expensive.
What is a karat?
Karat is a unit of measure for the purity of a noble metal. Pure gold is 24 karat, but pure gold is too soft and delicate and so cannot be manipulated. In order to be able to use gold for the production of jewelry, various metal alloys are added to the gold.
At Yaniv Fine Jewelry we use mainly 18 karat gold, containing 75% pure gold. The addition 25% is alloys of other high quality metals. 18 karat gold is beautiful, has a deep and high-quality shade, and that is why this is the gold we use to manufacture most of the jewelry at Yaniv Fine Jewelry. We also produce jewelry made of 21 karat and 14 karat gold.
Platinum, like gold, is a noble metal. A noble metal is one that does not undergo processes of oxidation and corrosion, is very resilient and does not rust, making it the optimal metal for jewelry making. Noble metals are rarer because they can only be found in the earth's crust, and therefore they are also more expensive.
Platinum is a very rare metal. It is flexible and much harder to manipulate than gold, making it more distinctive and luxurious. Its melting temperature is higher than 1700°, and it requires high-quality, professional craftsmanship. One of the advantages of the Yaniv Fine Jewelry workshop is the ability to fuse and work with platinum.
The white colors, as well as the pleasant and light sensation of the metal on the hand, are responsible for platinum jewelry's reputation as prestigious and of high-quality. The white shade remains bright and glossy even after years of wear and tear. Also, because this is a pure, noble metal, one cannot develop an allergic reaction to it.
Yaniv Fine Jewelry offers unique collections of engagement rings, wedding rings and platinum diamond rings in stunning and unique designs.
Diamonds are forever
Diamonds are nature's treasures, a gemstone made of the hardest and most brilliant mineral. Its degree of hardness is 10 – the highest of all natural materials. Diamonds are unrivaled as the most prestigious gemstone, and are a symbol of luxury, purity, beauty and durability. Their astounding beauty and strength have, for hundreds of years, made diamonds the traditional and perfect gemstone for engagement rings – as they symbolize the hope of a beautiful and strong marriage that will endure forever and ever.
At Yaniv Fine Jewelry we use only natural diamonds of the highest quality, and not improved or treated diamonds. Diamonds are forever only if they are entirely natural, and only then do they preserve their beauty over time. Shai Yaniv is the owner of Shai Yaniv Diamonds Ltd., a subsidiary of Yaniv Fine Jewelry that is licensed to trade in diamonds. This enables him to buy and sell the most magnificent, rare and unique diamonds and gems at attractive prices.
The GIA (Gemological Institute of America), the most acclaimed, respected and stringent gemological institution in the world assesses diamonds based on four criteria, known as the 4Cs: Carat, Color, Clarity, and Cut.
Carat – one carat (1 ct) equals 0.2 gram. The term comes from the Greek kerátion meaning carob seed that was used in ancient times to weight gemstones. Less than one carat, the weight of a diamond is measured in points, with 1 point equaling 0.01 ct. In the overall weight of a piece of jewelry, a diamond's weight is negligible, since even a large stone, weighing a carat, weighs only 0.2 gram.
Color – there are two types of diamonds: colored diamonds and white diamonds. Colored diamonds (referred to in professional lingo as fancy color diamonds) are very rare and extremely expensive. White diamonds are more common, and they are as beautiful as colored diamonds. The color of a white diamond is measured by its transparency – the less color the diamond has, the more prestigious it is. There are 23 shares of white diamonds (from totally transparent to yellow), with the three highest colors being D, E, F (the lower the letter, the lower the quality). These three colors are known as collection or colorless, and most of the white diamond jewelries at Yaniv Fine Jewelry are set with diamonds of these types.
There are numerous types of gemstones in all the colors of the rainbow. Gems exist in all shades and textures, and the variety is immense. At Yaniv Fine Jewelry we use a wide range of gemstones, but the most common are sapphires, rubies, emeralds and tanzanite.
Sapphire is a gem variety of the mineral corundum. Sapphires are the second hardest precious stones after diamonds, and are also the second most popular gem. Sapphires come in a variety of colors: blue, yellow, pink, orange and more.
Ruby is a gem that is also made of the mineral corundum, and comes in varying shades of red. Rubies are extremely prestigious, and when they are of fine quality may sometimes be more expensive and rarer than diamonds. Ruby stones from Burma with "pigeon blood" color are the most sought after and prestigious rubies in the world.
Emerald (also known as Esmaralda) is a precious gemstone. Emeralds have a shiny green color reminiscent of tiger eyes. A high quality emerald is also sometimes considered more expensive than diamonds.
Tanzanite is a very expensive gemstone. Tanzanite comes in a variety of blue colors, from translucent to light blue, blue to intense purple. This stone is one of the New Age stones, because it was only discovered in 1967. The tanzanite is named after its country of origin – Tanzania – the only place on earth where it is found.
A pearl is a gemstone whose origin is biological – unlike precious stones made of minerals (such as sapphires and emeralds), it is created inside clams / oysters. Pearls are very common and are considered the most prestigious gemstone among those of biological origins.
Pearls come in various colors, and in addition to the classic white pearl, there are pearls whose shades are black, pink, gold, silver and more. There are also a variety of pearl shapes and sizes.
Currently, only cultured pearls are used, which are pearls grown in pools. Most of the pearls are sweet water pearls, but the rarest pearls with the most unique and magnificent shades are salt water pearls from the Southern Ocean. We at Yaniv Fine Jewelry create distinctive and stunning pieces of jewelry set with Southern Ocean pearls.
Behind every piece of jewelry sold by Yaniv Fine Jewelry – rings, necklaces, earrings or bracelets – is a long and complex process during which an idea is transformed into luxurious, high-quality jewelry. Each piece of jewelry by Yaniv Fine Jewelry is manufactured as a one-off piece or in limited editions.
First stage – inspiration:
Every piece of jewelry begins with the glimmer of an idea, with inspiration. At Yaniv Fine Jewelry inspiration is drawn from the Israeli landscape, from Jewish tradition and from the Israeli atmosphere. Inspiration leads to an idea, and the idea kicks off the jewelry design process.
Second stage – design:
After formulating the idea and concept for the piece, Yaniv Fine Jewelry begin the design process with the goal of converting an abstract idea into a solid piece of jewelry. The design process is complex and requires delicate, precise and professional work. A piece is composed of crafting and setting of gems, metals and stones – and each one of these aspects must be perfect in itself and complement that other aspects. The initial design is created using paper and pencil, and involves drawing initial sketches of the piece. After the sketches are prepared, Yaniv Fine Jewelry prepares a 3D image of the piece using innovative and advanced design simulation software. The simulations enable us to see how the piece will look at the end of the manufacturing process.
Third stage – producing the initial model:
The initial model is a prototype of the piece. At Yaniv Fine Jewelry a prototype must comply with severe criteria for beauty, esthetics and quality, otherwise it is rejected. The initial model undergoes many modifications and improvements until the result is perfect. Our prototypes and pieces of jewelry are all composed of several different parts, and it is only when they are joined together that the pieces are complete. This is a complex method that requires great expertise, and results in jewelry that is more delicate, stronger and has a perfect finish.
Fourth stage – crafting and setting:
After completing the initial model, the manufacturing process itself begins. Now the idea is transformed into a real piece of jewelry. The crafting and setting work at Yaniv Fine Jewelry is performed in parallel, according to the model and computer simulations. Most of the jewelry at Yaniv Fine Jewelry is made of 18 karat gold – gold of the finest quality for fashioning jewelry – and set with diamonds and precious, spectacular gemstones.
Fifth stage – finish and stamping of the jewelry:
After the piece is assembled and set, it undergoes several final finishing processes that including cleaning, polishing and more. At the end of this stage, all the jewelry created by Yaniv Fine Jewelry is stamped both with the Yaniv Fine Jewelry stamp and the Israel Standards Institute stamp, confirming the high quality of the gold and the workmanship.
One of the unique aspects of Yaniv Fine Jewelry is the studio and workshop on Ben Yehuda Street in Tel Aviv, where our beautiful jewelry is created.
Yaniv Fine Jewelry's studio and workshop focus in parallel on three different facets of the jewelry creation process: design, crafting and stone setting. These three facets operate in unison and full collaboration, ensuring that the manufacturing of the jewelry pieces is of the highest quality.
In the workshop you'll find jewelry making tools that have been in use since ancient times, alongside new and innovative work technologies that enable us to produce complex designs and high quality finishes. Use of advanced technologies allows us to create quality jewelry at reasonable prices, jewelry that previously would only have been accessible to wealthy consumers. Use of traditional work tools alongside new tools is one of the secrets of the jewelries' distinctive charm.
The studio and workshop of Yaniv Fine Jewelry operate as a closed system, including all the means, equipment and tools required to create jewelry, from concept to finished product.
